Bellingham

I took this photo on Saturday as Hubby and I walked along the bayside promenade at the south end of Bellingham Bay.  It was a spectacularly beautiful afternoon and Bellingham has wisely built an extremely long trail along the water.  It has also of course been unseasonably warm.  While the East Coast gets pounded this winter, we've had nary a flake.  It feels like no winter at all.

Hubby and I needed to get away...bad.  Saturday morning, we drove up to Bellingham, home of relatives on both sides of the family, home of WWU, my alma mater, and site of our wedding.  I love Bellingham.  I don't know if we'll ever get to live there, but it always holds a special place in my heart.  It's also only about fifty miles south of Vancouver, so they are preparing for a ton of Olympics folks to swing through town.

Anyhoo, we frolicked in the playground, ate huge burgers at Bob's, visited my aunt and uncle then dropped the boys off with my sister in law.  Ahhhhh.

We were able to get a screamin' deal on Priceline for a hotel for the night.  We got coffee, walked along the water, drove around town, and had some late night Mexican food.  Sunday morning, we had fabulous coffee, crepes and another walk along the water.  Then it was time to collect the boys and head home.  Nineteen glorious hours to reconnect and relax.

We've both been under a lot of stress lately and we needed that time DESPERATELY.  My only complaint is that it was too short.  I am actually contemplating a Disney cruise vacation for next year.  It seems like the best way for the two of us to have some time alone without feeling guilty over leaving the boys.

The weekend was sort of like taking a nineteen hour deep breath.  The kind of deep breath that allows you to keep breathing.  The weekend is over, but I will look at that photograph over and over and keep taking deep breaths.

  1. I hear you sister. I am so ready for a 'night' of no sickness, not worrying about getting a job or homework, dogs getting up all night long or sick family... just a night of NOTHING but me and B. Sigh... maybe one day...

Glad you were able to get a break.

    Take care chica!

  2. I'm jealous! It sounds like a lovely 19 hours preceeded and followed by non-stop talking.
