summa summa summa time

FINALLY. Finally there are golden orbs in the forecast.  I was on the ledge. Another day of grey, cold, damp and I was about to jump. The universe heard my cry and it is sunny.  Ahhhhhhh.

As sometimes happens when one is busily enjoying life, one's blog does not get updated.  C'est la vie.  I feel like the cartoon character Phineas of Phineas and Ferb...what are we going to do today?

Summer time presents a new set of challenges and rewards for the stay at home mom.  There is really only one challenge as far as I can see and that is the "when do I run errands?  will I ever shop alone again?" challenge.

Taking my boys to the grocery store or similar is so unpleasant there aren't words to describe it.  I actually got two hours of babysitting from the girl down the street the other day for just such a purpose.  It's hard to balance doing the fun stuff and doing the stuff that must get done...housekeeping, cooking, lawn mowing, etc.  Not to mention doing stuff that isn't about entertaining children or keeping the ship afloat.  The stuff that keeps mommy sane.

I get that my life feels totally privileged right now; that I get to dabble in my little projects, etc.  but something tells me this needs to get scaled back just a bit.  I am trying to do too many things at once.  (One of which is a big secret, but I'm very excited about it.)

So, the current struggle is trying to find a rhythm for the summer and balance all the balls (no pun intended).  The boys and I are keeping summer journals and I don't want the entries at the end of every day to be "today we went to Fred Meyer and bought light bulbs." But alas, the light bulbs must be purchased.

My goal is to do at least one (preferably two) really fun, random things every day.   So, I better get going and plan some fun! Enjoy the sunshine.

  1. I can really relate to this post. I have had a tough time balancing this summer too. My boys are older but they still want out of the house and to go with me during errands. I am trying to find my groove but it has been a struggle. Thanks for the post it is nice to know other moms feel the same.

  2. If you plan... can it be random??? :-) I have a big secret too that will be revealed probably later today. Probably not as exciting and certainly not as cool (I'm assuming based on my secret) as yours.
