Giddy/Speechless/Spoiled/Disbelieving

Um, okay.

Hubby is getting ready to go on the golf trip that I gave him for his 40th birthday.  He leaves in the wee hours tomorrow morning with his dad.  I asked him if he wanted to take the camera, really hoping that he'd say no, that he'd get it all on his iphone.  Alas, he said yes and I contemplated three days without what I had come to think of as "my" camera.  I knew I would be taking pictures with my Blackberry and that isn't my favorite thing to do.  I settled in with my book and a few minutes later he carried a big box in with the item above in it.

It's what he called my "first" birthday present, a Nikon D5000 Digital SLR camera.

I didn't even know what to title this post, I am still processing.  I *really*really*really* wanted a fancy camera and this was the series I'd been looking at, but I guess I didn't really think that would happen.  Pioneer Woman gave away a D90 last week and I was crossing my fingers and toes that I would win, but it was not to be.

We aren't electronics people.  We still have a non-flat screen tv with over ten year old stereo and video components. We rarely import new music on our ipods, and we never bought a video camera.  I know, those of you with children are shrieking in horror right now that we haven't captured every moment of our childrens' lives on video.  We didn't want to be those parents with cameras in our kids' faces all the time.  This camera does take up to 20 minutes of video though, so maybe when I figure it out we'll capture a little video of our boys.

Of course I am a little terrified every time I pick it up and have no real idea how to use it but it came with multiple manuals and dvds and I am anxious to put it to use.  Thus far, I've unpacked and assembled it, charged and inserted the battery and set the time zone.  Beautiful high res photos must not be far off!

  1. Lucky you! See if you can get a Dummies Guide To ... for your make & model of camera, they're invaluable. Oh, and I've never taken video footage of my DS either.

  2. Congrats! We looked at this model before we settled on our Cannon Eos (the one with Video, because we are THOSE parents:) ). You deserve it.

    Enjoy
